THE VEGETARIAN FLAVOR BIBLE One of 6 Holiday Cookbooks Recommended by PW’s “2014 Bookstore of the Year” Co-Owner
“[THE VEGETARIAN FLAVOR BIBLE] is NOT a recipe book, but it’s inspiring and could lead you to rely less on recipes and more on intuition and experience.”
–Pete Mulvihill, co-owner, Green Apple Books (San Francisco)
In March, San Francisco’s Green Apple Books was named by the venerable book publishing trade magazine Publishers Weekly as its “2014 Bookstore of the Year” for its extensive community involvement, including founding the San Francisco Locally Owned Merchants Association and galvanizing nearly 100 bookstores to celebrate “California Bookstore Day,” which just might end up inspiring a national bookstore celebration.
No wonder the website Tablehopper‘s Marcia Gagliardi asked Green Apple Books’ co-owner Pete Mulvihill to share his holiday cookbook picks this season. Problem is, Mulvihill’s had it up to here with cookbooks — or, rather, stacks of cookbooks, which were taking over his home. So he chose only six — and you can imagine how flattered were we to learn that THE VEGETARIAN FLAVOR BIBLE was one of his chosen six! (Mulvihill’s complete list includes Liquid Intelligence by Dave Arnold, Mexico by Margarita Carrillo Arronte, Bar Tartine by Nicolaus Balla and Cortney Burns, Prune by Gabrielle Hamilton, Plenty More by Yotam Ottolenghi, and The Vegetarian Flavor Bible by Karen Page.)
The icing on the cake was that Mulvihill used the opportunity to also give shout-outs to two of our other books — THE FLAVOR BIBLE and WHAT TO DRINK WITH WHAT YOU EAT — too. (And any bookseller who, according to PW‘s Judith Rosen, has “a fully stocked bar within arm’s length of the book-buying desk” no doubt knows of what he speaks when it comes to drink books!)
Our heartfelt thanks to Pete (and his very supportive wife Samantha Schoech) for making room for yet another of our books on their sagging home cookbook shelves!
